A very unusual little silver pot, or inkwell.
It is sterling silver (mark to base) and the imagery and symbols suggest that it is of Japanese origin.
The three fan or leaf shapes together represents the coat of arms for the Samurai family " Tokugawa". Other japanese symbols represent happiness.
I believe it is late 19th/ Early 20th Century - of the Meiji period.
It's intended use is a mystery - it has a glass liner suggesting an inkwell.
The pot part sits on a square base.
It is in fair condition with some wear to the pattern on the base and there is a slight lifting of the silver in one area around the rim. I haven't taken the glass liner out, it seems firmly in the pot and wanted to avoid forcing it.
Approximate size: 4cm H x 4.5cm diameter.
It is a very collectable silver piece and will make a wonderful addition to a collection of silver and oriental items. And for those who collect items belonging to the legendary Samurai.
