Georgian silver sugar tongs with London hallmark and date mark 1806.
These elegant silver tongs have been beautifully engraved along the sides and over the acorn shaped ends.
Inside the sides are the hallmarks: There is the silver maker's mark for the highly collectable and renowned Bateman family. Though the hallmark is worn, I feel certain that this is the hallmark for William and Peter Bateman.
On the other inside side, is the London and date mark 1806, the silver tongs were made during the reign of King George III.
On the exterior curve of the end of the tongs, was once a monogram, now almost all worn from use.
The silver tongs are in good condition with some signs of wear acceptable for a 200 year old item intended for practical use.
A delightful housewarming gift or wedding present and a very collectable addition to a silver collection. Also a very elegant item to adorn a dining table, sideboard or coffee set.
Approximate size: 14cm L x 1 cm W
