The artist has labelled the back of the painted wood panel with his address and also his signature, date of painting, 2004 and that the piece of wood was found in Porthmeor, St.Ives which is in Cornwall, England.
The wood is probably a piece of driftwood and therefore shows signs of a life well lived and then drifting along the shore line before being used as a base for a painting. The painting was probably made in oils or acrylics and the predominant colours are orange, ochre and white.
It also has a hook attached, ready to hang the painting.
Robert Wilcox is a professional artist and retired to St.Ives in 1997. He also began "Fish Eye Ceramics" studio pottery business with Laura McCrossen. Many of his ceramic tile artworks are very similar to this abstract painting on wood.
